Debbie Caruso, Preschool Director
Debbie’s career in Early Childhood Education spans a period of over 30 years. In addition to raising two children with her husband, Debbie was actively involved in a number of civic, school, church and charitable organizations since moving to Evergreen in 1988. In 2003 Debbie was successful in opening a Core Knowledge Preschool, which is the current TLC Preschool. She was also instrumental in promoting the successful Core Knowledge Preschool Curriculum in the Evergreen community. Providing a nurturing, home-like environment, along with an individualized education with the highest standards of learning, and building a collaborative work environment are very important to Debbie. Debbie is highly appreciative of the support she has received from the Evergreen community throughout her career.
She enjoys hiking, walking her dog, gardening, and just being outdoors in this beautiful mountain community.
Quinlyn Richard, Preschool Teacher
Quinlyn began her Early Childhood teaching career at TLC Preschool as our 2019 Summer Camp Coordinator. After spending three short months with the children, she was asked to join the TLC staff as our Preschool teacher. Her energy, enthusiasm, and love for little children is evident in every interaction she has with the children. Quinlyn earned her teaching credentials at Red Rocks Community College and is working toward her Director’s certification. Quinlyn has watched TLC Preschool grow and blossom for the past 17 years and she is very grateful to now be a part of the TLC Team! Quinlyn enjoys hiking, kayaking, snowboarding, and spending time outdoors in the Colorado sun! Quinlyn was born and raised in Evergreen and has two dogs, two rabbits, and three hamsters.
Karen Bennett, Pre-Kindergarten 1 Teacher
Karen joined the TLC team in 2017 as our permanent substitute teacher. Recently she accepted the full-time Pre-Kindergarten 1 teaching position when TLC opened an additional classroom. Karen is an experienced K-8 teacher and recently earned her Early Childhood credentials from Red Rocks Community College. Karen is thrilled to be in the Pre-K classroom and enjoys teaching and working with this age group. Every day Karen is excited to see the joy in her students when they discover something new. Karen grew up in Evergreen and has two children, one grandchild and is expecting another grandchild soon. Currently she resides in Lakewood and remains active in the Evergreen community by volunteering for several organizations, as well as teaching at CBE’s after-school Hebrew school. Karen’s background also includes 35 years’ experience as a portrait and event photographer.
Shelly Lozano, Pre-Kindergarten 2 Teacher
Shelly earned her Early Childhood Teaching Certificate at Red Rocks Community College. She has been teaching at TLC Preschool for 14 years and has a very diversified teaching background of over 25 years. In addition to teaching her Pre-Kindergarten students, she is also the Curriculum Coordinator and Lead Teacher at TLC Preschool. Shelly began teaching preschoolers after the birth of her youngest daughter. She fell in love with the energy, enthusiasm and joy that little ones brought to her life and decided to pursue a career in Early Childhood education. Shelly has taught each grade level at TLC and has enjoyed every age group. Shelly lives in Conifer with her husband. She has three horses, two cats and two dogs. Shelly feels truly blessed to be working with our wonderful children and families in our mountain community.
Brenda Park, Jr. Kindergarten Teacher
Brenda is married and has four children. She earned her degree in Finance and Marketing from Minnesota State University. For 25 years she worked in the banking industry and moved to Denver in 1993. After relocating to Denver, Brenda volunteered to teach elementary students about banking through the Junior Achievement program. It was through this introduction of working with children that her desire to become a teacher began. She earned her preschool teaching credentials in May 2016 through Red Rocks Community College. It was an easy decision for Brenda to join the TLC staff since all of her children attended TLC Preschool. This is Brenda’s 4th year of teaching the Jr. Kindergarten program. She loves nurturing, educating, and challenging the Jr. K children. She strives to spark and grow that desire to learn in each of her students.
Heather Kapande, Jr. Kindergarten Teacher
Heather received her Elementary teaching degree from Loyola University Chicago. She began her teaching career in the Chicago area where she taught K-8 children for several years. When she moved to Evergreen in 1996 she taught Kindergarten for several years before taking time off to raise her two sons. During this time away from the classroom she created and managed her family’s business for 20 years. She also did concurrent international event planning and substitute taught in the Jefferson County schools. Heather is super excited to be back in the classroom. Her energy, enthusiasm and easy-going temperament are highly contagious. She is thrilled to be teaching the Jr. Kindergarteners at TLC Preschool.
Megan Vail, Preschool Assistant
Megan started working at TLC Preschool in 2017 in the capacity of teacher assistant. Through this experience Megan has decided to pursue a career in Early Childhood Education. Currently she is attending ECE classes at Red Rocks Community College and plans to earn a Masters Degree in the field. For over ten years she has worked with young children in various capacities, including being a camp counselor, and continues to hold a four-year Nanny position. Megan also volunteers at her church working with young children. Megan brings lots of energy and helpful hands to everyone on our team! Throughout the day you will find her teaching or assisting a child, running errands, doing office work, preparing snacks, or just about anything else that helps things run smoothly!
Rabbi Jamie Arnold,
Rabbi Jamie is our in-house song-leader and story teller. He has been playing his guitar and singing with our preschoolers for over thirteen years! With his guitar and joyous spirit, he brings more than 25 years of experience working with young children and their families. A former preschool teacher himself, we are thrilled to have Rabbi Jamie’s regular visits infusing our Learning Center with his spirit, songs, and his playful tales.
