Susan Wartchow, Preschool Director
Susan’s career in Early Childhood Education spans a period of over 22 years. She began her journey in the US Virgin Islands by opening an Early Learning Center for teenaged parents. Not only was this an inspiring experience but it solidified her deep passion for developing social and emotional skills in children, parents and educators. She believes social and emotional skills are foundational and that educators must create empathetic, compassionate and judgment-free environments for children to learn and practice these skills. Core values are at the heart of her philosophy as a Director. In 2017, she received the Peacemaker award from Denver’s Early Childhood Council, Colorado Department of Human Services and Colorado Shines. In addition to raising five children with her husband, Susan has turtles, a dog and enjoys yoga and meditation.
Shelly Lozano, Pre-Kindergarten 2 Teacher
Shelly earned her Early Childhood Teaching Certificate at Red Rocks Community College. She has been teaching at TLC Preschool for 17 years and has a very diversified teaching background of over 25 years. In addition to teaching her Pre-Kindergarten students, she is also the Curriculum Coordinator and Lead Teacher at TLC Preschool. Shelly began teaching preschoolers after the birth of her youngest daughter. She fell in love with the energy, enthusiasm and joy that little ones brought to her life and decided to pursue a career in Early Childhood education. Shelly has taught each grade level at TLC and has enjoyed every age group. She has three horses, two cats and two dogs. Shelly feels truly blessed to be working with our wonderful children and families in our mountain community.
Megan Vail, Preschool 1 Teacher
Megan is excited to begin her third year at TLC. Born and raised in Evergreen, she is a mountain girl through and through! Inspired by her Nana Jane and former Director, Deborah Caruso, she discovered a love for Early Childhood Education in 2018. Her coursework, in ECE, is from Red Rocks Community College and she has worked with children since she was 16. She knows that early childhood education is an important steppingstone in a family’s life and growth. She believes in creating a safe, warm and exciting environment that brings enthusiasm to children’s learning and development. Her goal is to bring a love of learning to your child; as well as work with you to create the building blocks to a bright and successful future for your child.
Sarah Stirling, Preschool 2 Teacher
Sarah Stirling is excited to join the TLC school family this year. This is her second year in a preschool classroom environment, but has been working with this age group for years through teaching martial arts. In her classroom, she keeps the energy positive, engaging, and loving. She received a BA in International Studies with a Concentration in European Studies and a minor in both Spanish and International Development. She finds that her collegiate background helps to support young children in their social development by creating a “peace-keeping” culture through the development of problem-solving, negotiation and collaboration!😊 She is looking forward to spending time with her new community!
Rabbi Jamie Arnold,
Rabbi Jamie is our in-house song-leader and story teller. He has been playing his guitar and singing with our preschoolers for over fifteen years! With his guitar and joyous spirit, he brings more than 25 years of experience working with young children and their families. A former preschool teacher himself, we are thrilled to have Rabbi Jamie’s regular visits infused in our Learning Center with his spirit, songs, and his playful tales.
Mikaela King, Jr. Kindergarten Teacher
Mikaela is a born and raised Coloradoan who has always known she wanted to work with children. She has a BS in Psychology and a MS in Developmental Disabilities with a concentration in Child Life. Mikaela has over nine years of experience teaching typically and atypically developing children. What she loves most about early education is how she can teach young children all about the world they live in before they gain preconceived notions. When Mikaela is not cuddling with her dogs, she can be found swimming, watching movies with her family, and reading a good book. Mikaela is looking forward to sharing her love of learning this school year!
Christy Bruckner, Jr. Kindergarten Teacher
Christy grew up in Atlanta, Georgia and came to Denver for college at Regis University in 99’. She is ECE lead teacher certified and has worked primarily in Montessori School environments for over 8 years. In 2011, she went to culinary school to be a chef but by the fall of 2018, she truly missed working with children and rejoined her career in Early Childhood (but now she came make culinary delights for the children).
She loves ECE because it’s the foundation for all education. She believes that children learn the fundamentals of education, basic skills, learn boundaries, develop social and emotional skills, form friendships and develop core values such as kindness and respect all in the microcosm of a classroom setting.
Christy is very outgoing and loves water rafting, live music and skiing. She looks forward to this new chapter in her career as an educator.
